Emergency center activated as tens of thousands go without power

— Orange County was significantly affected by a large-scale storm on Tuesday afternoon, and possible tornado activity, resulting in two fatalities and damage countywide, according to the Orange County Division of Emergency Management.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the department reports that it is "now activated for storm response and is working with our partner agencies to assist in recovery efforts. Currently there are over 60,000 customers without power county wide with two fatalities and multiple road closures due to downed trees and downed wires."

In Newburgh, a child and an adult were killed in separate accidents, in which trees fell on cars.
There are power outages at St. Luke's Hospital, which is operating on generators. In the town of Cornwall, a tree hit the roof of the middle school, and a 250-person senior home suffered structural damage.
There are 132 people requiring emergency power for medical needs, according to the Division of Emergency Management.
