CHESTER Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus spent some time at Dos Latinos Restaurant in Chester recently as part of his “Open for Business” initiative.
Longtime friends Rommel Cartright of Goshen and Edgar Perez, who lives in Warwick, opened Dos Latinos in August of this year in the ShopRite Plaza in Chester. Recently, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus visited the friends as part of the "Open for Business" tour.
“Dos Latinos is a wonderful restaurant and I enjoyed its warm and friendly atmosphere,” Neuhaus said. “Rommel and Edgar are both very outgoing and it is clear that they take a lot of pride in operating Dos Latinos and interacting with their customers. Their energy and dedication will serve them well and I wish them much success.”
Dos Latinos, which specializes in Puerto Rican and Dominican food, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Cartright said he and Perez, along with the Dos Latinos staff, pride themselves on “allowing our family to feed yours.” The pair became friends about a decade ago when they coached their sons’ youth football team together.
Cartright opened Mel’s Mess, a café located at Frozen Ropes Training Center in Chester, three years ago. He turned to his close friend, Perez, to help run the operation. They both always talked about opening their own restaurant. Growing up, both were heavily influenced by their families’ Puerto Rican and Dominican cooking.
“This has always been my dream,” said Cartright, a retired New York State Trooper, who served for nine years on Gov. George Pataki’s detail. “When I was growing up in the city, I always wanted to open up my own little Spanish restaurant. The timing was just right. We are very appreciative that County Executive Neuhaus took the time to visit our restaurant and learn more about Dos Latinos. It means a lot to the Latino community.”
Dos Latinos is located at 78 Brookside Avenue in the ShopRite Plaza and can be reached at 610-5420 or by email at doslatinos@optonline.net. The restaurant’s website is doslatinos2016.com.
'Open for Business'Neuhaus invites new businesses in Orange County to contact his office to schedule a time for him to visit local establishments as part of the “Open for Business” program. He will take a picture with the owner(s) and post it on his Facebook page to help promote the business. Neuhaus unveiled the “Open for Business” initiative in October of 2015.
