A picnic to keep Goshen Strong

GOSHEN — A picnic is planned to bring together a community in mourning, after a horrific accident last month took the lives of three Goshen High School students and injured a fourth.

Joe Betro, owner of Delancey's Restaurant, and Therese Urato, wife of Delancey's chef, Mike Urato, are the driving forces behind the Goshen Strong Community Picnic. The idea came to Betro as he thought of how the community may support the Van Doran, Baglivo-Caccavale, O'Connor, and Krebs families, community members whose lives were forever changed on that tragic July morning. The big, quickly formed planning committee hopes to raise funds to be shared by the families, and to help Goshen and surrounding communities begin to heal.

The picnic will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, on the First Presbyterian Church lawn in the center of Goshen. The picnic, still in the planning stages, will offer hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers and chicken as well as salads and desserts.

Live entertainment will perform throughout the day. There will also be activities and games for children of all ages, and an organ donor booth, where people can get information about organ donation and even register to become an organ donor.

Tickets are $20 per adult, $10 per child under 12, and $50 for a family of up to five. Tickets may be reserved by filling out the registration form that can be downloaded from the Goshen Central School District's website, wvvw.ocsny.org, or printed from the Goshen Strong Facebook page.

The committee has collaborated with a 501(c)3 called 141 Foundation, Inc. Mail registration forms and checks made out to 141 Foundation, Inc. (be sure to write "Goshen Strong" in the memo field) to: Goshen Strong, P.0. Box 313, Goshen, NY 10924.
