New York's Department of Environmental Conservation plans to celebrate “Outdoors Day" by offering free events at its facilities across the state.
The June 8 events coincide with “National Get Outdoors Day," an annual event to encourage healthy outdoor recreation.
In New York, events are planned at 10 DEC facilities from Long Island to Buffalo. Activities include fishing, camping instruction, paddling, archery, birdwatching, hiking and outdoor safety.
DEC manages nearly 5 million acres of public lands, including 3 million in the Adirondack and Catskill forest preserves.
A schedule of events is posted on the DEC website, dec.ny.gov.
