New York State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R-New Windsor) has announced the inaugural 99th Assembly District Salute to First Responders nominees.
Local nominees include Deana Santosky-Wright of the Town of Chester Police Department, John Deshler of the Chester Fire Department, George Lyons of the Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Jay Jonas of Goshen, a New York City Fire Department (FDNY) deputy chief.
The 17 nominees will be honored at Schmitt’s Salute to First Responders celebration at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at the Orange County Emergency Services Auditorium, 22 Wells Farm Road in Goshen.
Local governing boards and leaders in the 99th Assembly District had the ability to nominate one First Responder that truly stands out in their community. Nominees could be active or retired, paid or volunteer first responders that live, work, or serve their community. Individuals eligible for nomination include members from all branches of the first responder community, including 911 dispatchers, EMS responders, corrections, police, and firefighters.
"Our Assembly District is home to many selfless first responders that serve our communities in countless ways," Schmitt said. "This event aims to honor their courageous work and contributions to the community. I invite all residents to join me in Goshen on Sept. 16 to say thank you to our nominated first responders who will be recognized for their extraordinary service.”
