A series of 10 virtual financial aid workshops will be offered this spring to help prospective students and their families navigate the financial aid process and answer questions about paying for college.

The workshops, which will be delivered via Zoom, include a general information session titled “Financial Aid 101” as well as three specialty workshops:

New York State Financial Aid Programs;

Understanding Satisfactory Academic Progress; and

Navigating the Verification Process.

In the Financial Aid 101 workshop, participants will learn how to research and apply for federal and state aid and scholarships. The importance of filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will also be discussed.

These workshops will be offered on:

Wednesday March 3 at 6 p.m.;

Tuesday March 23 at 4 p.m.;

Friday April 21 at 6 p.m.; Tuesday May 11 at 4 p.m.; and

Wednesday May 26 at 6 p.m.

The three specialty workshops will help further inform students and their families on specifics of the financial aid process. In the “New York State Financial Aid Programs” sessions, the SUNY Orange financial aid team will discuss programs like New York State (NYS) Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), NYS Excelsior Scholarship, and other financial aid programs available specifically to New York State residents.

One workshop was held Feb. 17; another is scheduled for Tuesday March 9, at 4 p.m.

Students and their families will learn about the importance of progressing toward a degree, and its impact on the financial aid process in “Understanding Satisfactory Academic Progress.” These workshops will be offered on Wednesday, March 31, at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, April 13, at 4 p.m.

Finally, in the “Navigating the Verification Process” workshop, attendees will learn about how to proceed should your financial aid application be selected for participation in the Federal Verification Process. This workshop will be offered on Wednesday, May 5, at 6 p.m.
