Mitchell Saler is a fine artist who primarily paints realistic landscapes in oil. In his works, he enjoys conveying vastness, dramatic lighting and atmospheric effects.

“My trotter is the one depicting a bald eagle on one side and fireworks on the other,” Sale said. “I wanted to create the trotter with a patriotic theme and came up with the idea to have the head of the bald eagle where the horse’s head would be and have the eagle’s feathers for the mane of the horse where the shape of the feathers corresponds with the hair of the mane. The fireworks continue the patriotic theme because they can be seen on the Fourth of July.

“All of the artists do an excellent job creating their trotters. I have painted a trotter each of the four years since the annual project began, and it is wonderful to see the level of artistry advance each year.”
