The journey that began for the members of the Chester Academy Class of 2021 back in kindergarten in 2008 culminated in a joyous graduation ceremony last Friday, June 25, in the fields of Chester.

Ninety-nine young men and women heard their names called out to accept diplomas that recognized the journey - and the accomplishment.

Both salutatorian Sofia Balich and valedictorian Vincent Alonso spoke of the journey they and their classmates had taken, particularly since the world changed in March 2020 with the advent, no the onslaught, of COVID-19.

Conditions did improve of late to the point that the school was able to bring back the traditional scavenger hunt for seniors throughout Chester and Greenwood Lake.

Hours after the graduation, the All-Night Party opened at 10 p.m. at the Capelli Sports Complex in the Village of Florida and thus the Class of 2021 began a new journey.

“Whatever you choose for a career path,” the late actor Chadwick Boseman once advised, “remember the struggles along the way are only meant to shape you for your purpose.”

Congratulations.
