Chester. First Presbyterian Church secures grant to replace 50-year-old heating system

Elder Ronald Brooks of the First Presbyterian Church in Chester passed along some good news.

On July 12 the congregation was notified they had been awarded a $5,000 grant. This project has been funded in part by a grant from the Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation.

The grant will go toward replacement of the church’s very old heating system. It is a matching grant and will need to be matched with an equal amount by the congregation. Brooks applied for and secured this competitive grant in March.

Brooks said during “COVID time” in the winter, he was sitting in his house and thought, “I gotta get a jump on this.” He knew when the application came out and that he had only 30 days to apply.

The application was about 18 pages long and he credits the good people he was able to lean on for help, Including engineer Mark Fellenzer of Fellenzer Engineering from Middletown, Victor Mangano of T.M. Contracting of Chester and Gene Winters, for his background on heating systems.

If the First Presbyterian Church is able to secure matching funds from the congregation and the community, they can replace the 50-year-old heating system in the education building.
