Chabad’s Loaves of Love honors the spirit of Thanksgiving

More than 80 children had an exciting morning of giving when they joined Chabad of Orange County’s Loaves of Love program.

In the Thanksgiving spirit, two challah loaves were braided – one to give, and one to share with their family.

The event was hosted by Chabad Hebrew School and the CKids Chabad network at the Chabad Center in Chester.

“Giving can be taught from a very young age,” said Chana Burston, who co-directs the organization along with her husband, Rabbi Pesach. Chana Burston taught students a special technique of how to make chocolate filled challah, and paint with a glaze for shine.

“A four-year-old is discussing with her mother who she can gift her challah to with real excitement,” says Burston “sharing with others is what we want our kids to be focused on.”

After decorating their “loaves of love” with a variety of toppings (of which sprinkles was the most popular!) participants enjoyed a “Build-A-Challah-Workshop” in which they chose a Challah “pillow” friend, stuffed it, placed a blessing for their home inside the pillow, and filled out a “birth certificate.”
