Margaret T. McKeon died May 5th 2021 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 78 years old.

Born Margaret Thompson on Jan. 6, 1943, she married John McKeon on April 30, 1966.

Margaret graduated from Tolentine High School and Kathryn Gibbs and went on to work for Mobil, the City of New York and Volunteers of America.

She and John moved in 1972 and raised their children Michele, Leigh Ann and John Matthew in Orange County where she needed and obtained a driver’s license at age 34 much to the horror of all other drivers.

Her loving husband died in 2008 and since then the focus of all of her love have been her grandchildren; Meghan, Allison, Emma, Thomas and John. They were the light of her life and her greatest joys. Having an opportunity to watch them grow up, play sports, take them to Disney is how she held the disease back for so long.

She didn’t mind her children; Michele, Leigh Ann and John Matthew. While Matthew was clearly the favorite, Michele made her a mother and Leigh Ann made her a grandmother first, though it’s not a competition. They adored her and she was their greatest cheerleader.

Her sister, Patricia Allen, provided love and care to Margaret throughout her battle, shared her precious Mallomars, which she resented immensely, and was her best friend. Margaret also had three fur grandkids who she would sneak hamburgers to and send Christmas presents.

Leigh Ann and Matthew’s spouses Bill and Regina, who she shared a love of not cooking and Brett Michaels with, and their families have been blessings and support and Margaret loved her bonus kids Michelle, Annie, Cathy, Joanne, Marie and Theresa and her bonus grandchildren Billy, Kiera, Kailey, Brendan, Erin, Patrick, Maggie, Mariel, Lucas, Joseph, Derek and Madison. Margaret loved her nieces Teri and Maddie and was so happy they have been here this last week.

Margaret’s lifelong friends from New York City provided constant laughter to her and visited weekly to buoy her spirits and reminisce. Margaret was also blessed by a loving friendship with Al O’Donnell who she loved deeply.

Margaret received exemplary care from her doctors at Crystal Run Healthcare, especially Dr. Sethi who, even though he was a Mets fan, was a main reason she was with us for so long. We thank him and his whole team for everything they did for her.

Margaret’s life was celebrated on May 10 at Donovan’s Funeral Home in Goshen.

Her funeral mass was held the next day, Tuesday, May 11, at St. John’s in Goshen.
