Lorraine G. Dugan

Lorraine G. Dugan of Warwick passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on April 9, 2020. She was 92 years old.

Born in Queens on Nov. 16, 1927, Lorraine was the daughter of Irene (Sorenson) and Richard Klaus.

Lorraine was married for 49 years to Dennis R. Dugan, who predeceased her in 1998. She was also predeceased by her beloved brother Richard.

She is survived by her daughter Gail Andersen, her husband Paul, their children Brian and Kristen and her daughter Diane Wozniak (whose husband was the late Paul Wozniak) and their children: Hayley, Hanna and Chris.

Lorraine moved to Warwick in 1999 and quickly became active in her new community. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Warwick Senior Club, Warwick Senior Bowling League and formerly volunteered at the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry.

Lorraine was a grateful 20-year survivor of stage 4 kidney cancer, who always reached out to share this gift of hope with anyone in need of it.

She took joy in her family above all, but also in the friends she made in all her daily encounters. She was one of the oldest and most dedicated bowlers in Warwick Senior League, still celebrating exuberantly when she rolled a good score and analyzing what went wrong when she didn’t. She was the first to dance when music would start at Concerts on the Green or senior excursions. She looked forward to summer bocce on the lawn with her grandchildren and their friends and was a fierce and funny competitor, supplying a running commentary of the action.

Lorraine had her ears pierced at 75; ate her first oyster at 85; and had her first trip to the top of the Empire State Building at 90. She lived each day up until her last looking forward to what was next. She left gently and with great faith, leaving all who loved her feeling her loss deeply, but carrying her amazing spirit with us.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions put in place by Governor Cuomo, a private burial was held in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton. A future celebration of her life will be held when we can all be together again.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry, or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements were made by Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. To send an online condolence, visit www.lsvpmemorialhome.com.
