THE BAND Band will perform a musical celebration of the 43rd anniversary of "The Last Waltz" at the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30.

This tribute band will bring to life with authentic renditions the music for which the storied '70s group, The Band, was renown. THE BAND Band has been earning critical acclaim since they started touring in 2007.

While The Band may be long gone from the stage, THE BAND Band delivers the energy and excitement of the original's legendary concerts.

"Sadly we'll never see or hear The Band perform live again, but if you want a close second and want to be transformed by the magic and spirit of their music, THE BAND Band delivers big time," says Rex Fowler of the folk-rock duo Aztec Two-Step.

Gary Solomon, co-founder of THE BAND Band, was in the right place at the right time when he found himself in the audience at "The Last Waltz" at San Francisco’s Winterland Arena on Thanksgiving day 1976. He knew then it would be a concert for the ages. Immediately after the show, he wrote his friends back home, "I have just come from the most incredible musical happening I have ever experienced, or probably ever will."

More than 40 years later, Solomon leads the tribute band he co-founded with friend and keyboardist Jack Kraft.

"I was so blown away by the experience of being at 'The Last Waltz,' I wanted to tell the whole world about it," Solomon said. "I guess I still do.”

Guest artists

THE BAND Band will be joined by TTBB Horns and guest artists representing the music of some of the special guests who performed at "The Last Waltz," including Thom and Melanie Hogan, Katie Pearlman, and the Hudson Valley’s own James Finnen, Billy Roues, Steven “Muddy” Roues, Big Jim Wheeler, and violinist Larry Packer.

The Band's 1976 farewell concert featured more than a dozen guest artists, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, and Dr. John, and showcased many of The Band’s classic hit songs, such as "The Weight," "Up On Cripple Creek," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," "Ophelia," and "It Makes No Difference."

The Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center has been a hub for artistic and creative community in Sugar Loaf since its construction in 1992. Originally known as the Lycian Center for the Performing Arts, was the vision of its creator, Richard Logothetis, owner and president of Lycian Stage Lighting.
