WARWICK — The Gilded Growler local craft brewery tournament at The Café at Pennings Farm Market, 161 Route 94 South, will kick off next Friday evening, March 24.
The seven-week bracket-style tournament will feature eight Orange County breweries that will go head-to-head to win accolades and take home the Gilded Growler trophy to proudly display at their establishments.
The wooden base for the Gilded Growler, a jug used to contain draft beer, was made by Chris Pape, a Pennings bartender, who is also a master carpenter by trade.
The artwork was completed by Hilda Luce, a Pennings Garden Center associate.
The tournament will be an annual event to cross-promote and show Pennings' appreciation to the local breweries, which regularly provide the beers on tap.
And each year will find the reigning champ returning the Gilded Growler trophy in "Stanley Cup" fashion, and having to compete again to win the coveted award.
The premiere of the Gilded Growler tournament on March 24 presents a unique way to explore locally crafted beers with friends and vote for your favorite through a multi-week tasting competition.
Hudson Valley breweries will go head to head every Friday night from March 24 through May 5, beginning at 7 p.m.
Guests will be lead through the bracket-style tournament where everyone tastes four beers at a time and then votes for a favorite. At the end of each night, the winner is named to continue on to the semi-finals with hopes of making it to the final taste off on May 5 and taking home the Gilded Growler Trophy.
In addition to the combination of limited edition one-off and flagship beers that will be offered up from each of the participating breweries for taster's choice votes, live music, performed by local bands and musicians, will be featured from 8 - 11 p,m,
Admission is free for The Gilded Growler local brewery tournament.
The Café at Pennings Farm Market is open until 9 p.m. on Friday nights, serving farm-to-table style appetizers, entrees and desserts.
Fish Fry specials will be available every Friday during Lent.
All attendees at the Gilded Growler local brewery tournament must show a valid photo I.D. at the door.
