, N.Y. — The staff and residents of St. Joseph’s Place, a long-term care facility at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y., recently joined in judging the winner of the first annual Mac and Cheese Bake-Off.
“The staff and the residents thought macaroni and cheese was a good choice for another contest because it’s a nice comfort food, especially in wintertime,” said Recreation Director Kelly Fedrizzi.
St. Joseph’s Place staff volunteers and one resident’s family member prepared and donated eight large crocks of homemade macaroni and cheese. And to compliment each dish, the residents were served a variety of creative fruit punches.
Residents and hospital staff were invited to sample each entry, numbered from one to eight, and then mark a ballot for the one they judged best. And the winner was the volunteer family member Jim McCooey.
“This was another wonderful and fun event for our residents,” said Fedrizzi, “I would like to thank all those who participated. It was a huge success and we are open to suggestions for our next contest.”
