William T. Rankin Jr. of Highland Mills, N.Y., dies at age 89

William T. Rankin Jr. of Highland Mills, N.Y., passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, N.Y. He was 89.

Son of the late William T. Rankin Sr. and Catherine McLaughlin Rankin, he was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Brooklyn.

William was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country from 1951-1952. He was a retired banquet manager at the Hotel New Yorker in Manhattan and worked at several local hotels prior to finishing his career with St. Agatha's of Nanuet, N.Y.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Rasmussen Rankin, at home; sons, William Rankin III and his partner,Jennifer Cruz-McLean, of Nyack, N.Y., Edward Rankin and his wife, Christina Paige, of West Hartford, Conn., Robert Rankin of Montgomery, N.Y.; daughters, Jo-Anne Rankin and her husband, John Williams, of Vernon, Conn., Linda Rankin and her husband, Joseph Kurpel, of Chester, N.Y.; sister, Jeanne Schaumburg of Fishkill, N.Y.; grandchildren, Claire, Todd, Ashley, Jennifer, Daniel and his fiancée, Cristie, Scott, Lindsay, Robert, and Emily; and many nieces and nephews.

William was predeceased by his son Peter Rankin; brothers Owen and James Rankin; and sister Kathryn Mulligan.

Visitation was held March 6 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe, N.Y. A chapel service was held March 7 in the funeral home followed by interment in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Goshen.
