Thank you for taking the Goshen Generosity Challenge

Dear Goshen Friends, and Friends of Goshen,
On Dec. 1, we asked you to participate in our third annual December $5 Generosity Challenge. You certainly heard the call.
We met last week and laid your money on the table. Reverend Susan Chupungco, of the Goshen United Methodist Church, was there. In October of 2015, she preached a beautiful sermon on love and money, and handed out envelopes with five dollar bills in them, to be shared with others. The Generosity Challenge was born! She offered a prayer of blessing and discernment over that money, and those meeting to share it.
The money was counted, and it was an amazing $8,975, which has since grown to $9,465. That is a whole lot of five dollar bills! The needs of many were brought discreetly to the table, and 37 envelopes were filled and have been quietly distributed around town. Those envelopes held cash, but more importantly, love, good wishes, and prayer. Our youngest recipient was three months old, and the eldest, someone in their 80s. One five dollar bill was held back, which is the seed money for the next challenge.
More than $40,000 in five dollar bills has been raised since this simple challenge began just over three years ago, and every single penny has been given to someone who needed it.
We are so grateful to all that participated — individuals, including some that gave more than $5 to cover those that could not, the many businesses that make a spot on their counter for our jars, a local business that hosted a band that benefitted this cause, and the Independent and Chronicle newspapers, for letting people know what we do.
We are indeed humbled, grateful, and blessed to live in a community as generous and loving as Goshen.
We thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts, for trusting us to be good stewards of any monies donated, for sharing those five dollar bills, and making a difference for someone else.
