DREAM Act is unfair to students who pay their way

To the Editor:

As a local college student who has to pay for my own college tuition, I am very upset at some of the recent legislation that has passed in Albany, specifically the “DREAM Act,” which provides free college tuition for illegal immigrants.

While I work hard to pay my own way, illegal immigrants and even people on student visas will have college paid for them by taxpayers.

I want to thank those who opposed this legislation, including our new Assemblyman Colin Schmitt.

We need to focus on affordability and college access for hard-working local residents.

I am grateful to have Assemblyman Colin Schmitt fighting for me and all college students in the entire state. He provides a voice of reason to this radical legislation being pushed through unlike many others so actually believe this is a good idea.
