Edward Thomas Fritsche of Goshen, N.Y., dies at age 80

Edward Thomas Fritsche of Goshen, N.Y., entered external peace, and returned to his pre-deceased wife, Patricia Fritsche, on Monday, Dec. 24, 2018. He was 80.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1937. He grew up in the Philippines and graduated high school while living in Guam.

He was an active swimmer throughout high school and while attending Queens College in New York. He graduated with a masters degree in chemistry, which led him to his career as a chemist for Union Carbide, Technicon, and Bayer Corporation, where he eventually rose to management positions.

He worked for the National Guard during the Korean War, was an active member of the Masons Lodge, served as a local judge for the Science Olympiads at Goshen High School, and formerly taught at Orange County Community College in Middletown, N.Y., as a chemistry professor.

Edward was devoted to religion and was an active member of St. Grace in Middletown and St. James in Goshen.

Survivors include his daughter, Karen Fritsche of Oswego, N.Y.; son, Edward Fritsche of Middletown, N.Y.; grandson, Shane Fritsche, and his wife, Shannon, of Mineola, N.Y.; grandson, Anthony Cuomo and his wife, Beata; great-granddaughter, Kira of Fulton, N.Y.; granddaughter, Cherie of Oswego, N.Y.; niece, Renée Anderson and her daughters, Michelle and Renée of South Carolina, and partner, Jackie Bloem-Powers.

Visitation was held Jan. 4 at Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen. Visitation was held at St. James Episcopal Church, Goshen, on Jan. 5, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Goshen.
