Gloria V. Charles of Goshen, N.Y., dies at age 88

Gloria V. Charles of Goshen, N.Y., entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Valley View Center in Goshen, N.Y. She was 88.

Daughter of Charles Manuel Sr. and Estella (Cudjo) Manuel, she was born Dec. 13, 1930, in Goshen.

She worked as a Cottage Parent at Warwick State Training School for 25 years. After retiring from there, Gloria worked as a housekeeper at Arden Hill Hospital, retiring from there after 25 years of dedicated service.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and serving her church. She was a member of St. John African Union Methodist Protestant Church (AUMP) and faithfully served as the Pastor Steward, Building Fund President and Trustee for over 24 years under Pastor Carolyn Ross.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Kenneth Charles and wife, Tessa, of Middletown, N.Y., and Rudolph Craig Charles of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rudolph K. Charles; her siblings Chester (Chet), Madeline, Bucky, Ernestine, and Helen; her daughter-in-law, Valencia Charles; and adopted children, Linda and Bill.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John AUMP Church, 207 West Main St., Goshen, with the Funeral Service beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ross officiating.

Burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery, Goshen.

Arrangements are under the care of the Donovan Funeral Home, Goshen.
