WASHINGTONVILLE — Students from M’Lanie Hunter Dance will be performing "The Nutcracker" ballet at Washingtonville High School on Friday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m., and on Saturday, Dec. 9, at noon.
The contemporary show, "The Magical Toyshop," will have one performance on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 5 p.m.
The Nutcracker is a traditional holiday ballet, set to music by Tchaikovsky. The ballet tells the tale of Clara, a young girl given a Nutcracker as her favorite toy on Christmas Eve. At midnight, the Nutcracker magically comes to life and takes her on a thrilling and magical adventure.
There will also be Nutcracker Tea with Clara following the Dec. 9 Nutcracker performance. The “Tea” offers a chance to meet the characters from "The Nutcracker" and includes storytelling, a light meal with beverages, a mini-performance, a dance lesson, plus activities and crafts.
The Magical Toyshop is a contemporary show about a young girl, Leanne, who loses her doll Adora. She stumbles into the land of the Joymaker and the Magical Mimes. Leanne helps the mimes think up new toys while the Mimes help Leanne find her lost doll and her love of Christmas.
Tickets for both productions are $16, available at the door cash only, before show time.
The Nutcracker Tea is $10.
M’Lanie Hunter Dance offers a variety of dance, acting and singing classes to children from three years and up, plus dance and exercise classes for adults.
