Where in Chester?

Readers did a super job this week identifying the location of last week's Where In Chester? clue.

"This is the white house with green shutters and ivy growing on the side," write Richard and Karen Kosturko. "It is located at 38 West Avenue. It is currently decorated for Christmas with greenery and red bows."

Deborah Chisholm writes, also correctly, that it's "the beautiful Memmelaar Family farmhouse on West Avenue opposite Hom Street in the Village of Chester."

And Chester historian Clifton Patrick provides some fascinating background information: "This is the Jonathon Hudson Board House built about 1863 on West Ave., now occupied by his great-great-great-great-grandson Jack Memmelaar and wife Jen. From the Building-Structure Inventory Form Division for Historic Preservation New York State Parks and Recreation #071-02-0012: 'This is a rather unusual early Victorian farmhouse with excellent Gothic detailing intact. The limestone construction of the outer walls is unusual for the area. J. Hudson Board, the builder of the house, was descended from Cornelius Board, who built the 1st ironworks in Sterling Forest in 1736-37. He was the son of James J. Board, the administrator of the Yelverton Estate and an early owner of the Durland Store....' Copy of a circa 1889 photo of the Board Farm provided by J.H. Board's g—g-great-granddaughter, Betty Lou Memmelaar, from the archives of the Chester Historical Society attached. The spectacularly wonderful condition of this house and outbuildings is a historical treasure for the citizens of Chester and a great testament to care given by the Board, Green and Memmelaar families."

Thanks and congratulations to all.
