More than 170 people gathered on the Railroad Green in Warwick recently to rally for women's rights with Democratic nominee for state Senate, Jen Metzger. With the recent Kavanaugh confirmation in the background, Metzger, joined by activists and elected leaders, spoke of what's at stake in the upcoming Nov. 6 election: “Policies and laws governing our rights, our freedoms, and our bodies, are being decided with hardly any women in the room. Women's rights and reproductive freedom in this country are a moving target. We now have an anti-choice majority on the U.S. Supreme Court. We can show up at the polls, and we can vote for a New York that stands up for us, for our rights, and for our freedoms. This is the time, this is the place where we say: we matter." Metzger received the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Empire State, Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley, Eleanor’s Legacy, Emily's List, and the National Organization for Women-New York. She also calls for the state to rescind permits granted to the CPV Valley Energy Center. Her other endorsements include NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, Human Rights Campaign, the Sierra Club, Food & Water Action, New York League of Conservation Voters, and labor groups including the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation, Communications Workers of America, 32BJ SEIU, New York State United Teachers, New York State American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), United Auto Workers Region 9A, and the New York State Public Employees Federation.
