— With the weather getting warmer, many businesses set out to fix the potholes created after the winter plowing and shoveling.

We asked readers to submit troublesome spots that have been an issue for a while. Multiple residents submitted the Quickway Plaza on Brookside Avenue in Chester.

The plaza includes three buildings housing various restaurants, offices, a dance studio and a preschool. There are several fairly large potholes throughout the parking lot, especially near the entrance.

The potholes have been there for several weeks, residents say, and have continued to get worse.

The propertyAccording to property records, the 14-acre property is owned by two entities: Chester Shopping Plaza, Ltd, and Quickway Plaza, LLC. Both of these entities are listed as having the same address within Kiryas Joel.

The larger building is 38,366 square feet and the second building is 8,160 square feet. The school building is 16,128 square feet.

When will it be fixed?Attempts to reach both Chester Shopping Plaza, Ltd and Quickway Plaza LLC were unsuccessful. Requests for comment from Village of Chester Mayor John Thomas Bell were not returned by press time.

Editor’s note: Pothole Watch will keep an eye on the situation with updates every week until the lot is repaved.

Continuing coverageThe Chronicle is still monitoring the repairs at the Goshen Plaza parking lot. On week 12, after crews filled in potholes two weeks ago, the condition has deteriorated.

The asphalt is still crumbling and a gravel material used in repairing the potholes is now strewn all over the lot. At night, many of the lot lights are out or dim, and a number of handicapped parking signs are missing from the yellow poles in the front.

Now, there appears to be a giant pile of tires at the far east end of the lot.

The Village of Goshen announced last month that the property owners have until May 16 to make the parking lot safe. The announcement came after nine weeks of "Pothole Watch," in which The Chronicle monitored the condition of the parking lot on a weekly basis.

Village of Goshen Mayor Kyle Roddey has said that while he is encouraged by the property owners’ initial actions to make the lot safer for residents, “it is clear that this is only a temporary solution.”
