A healthy life in the country

To the Editor:

20,000 cars a day, and don't forget the countless idling school buses from schools one to two hours away, all there for the "educational" benefits of Legoland, every day, all day contributing to a concentrated cloud of air pollution settling on the inhabitants of Goshen and surrounding Orange County. It's said that asthma sufferers will feel the effect immediately. And what about the Goshen School District, the gem of Orange County, and all our Goshen athletes outside at practice deep breathing in all that particulate matter hanging in the air above them? Would you exit Rt. 17 in Goshen and buy a home in such close proximity to a pollution source, to an active “amusement park” regardless of what they have labelled it to skirt the law? Not to mention the crooked CPV plant just 9 miles further away.

Legoland couldn't get over on Rockland County residents and were shown the door. Did they have higher standards, or just more money and influence? Federal, state, and our local political flunkies have been wined and dined and bought by Legoland; they have been shown through Legoland’s eyes what Legoland will do to enhance Orange County, with little regard to how it will affect the little people who are in the way and just happen to live in the area they have chosen.

Orange County is vast and there is vacant land all over long stretches of Rt. 84, for example, where there are no villages or towns to inconvenience. But those more remote geographic areas would create a challenge for Legoland to get schools to bus their children there for day trips. So, they’ll just monetarily muscle their way in and settle amid already congested villages and towns along Route 17, destroying the quality of life we bought into years and years before Legoland set its talons on Orange County. Stop letting big money push us around!
