Gregory Ellsworth Jackson, formerly of Chester, N.Y., dies at age 84

Gregory Ellsworth Jackson of Shelton, Conn., formerly of Chester, N.Y., passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was 84.

He was born June 7, 1933, in Bayridge, Brooklyn.

He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Intrepid and was a proud member of the Chester Golden Age Senior Club for 17 years. Gregory was a compassionate man of great principles who had a good sense of humor. Locally, he was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a greeter, Eucharistic Minister, and taught CCD.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Fannie Jackson; his daughters, Barbara Caputo and her husband, Christopher, and their children, Meagan Caputo, LT Anthony Caputo, and Jacqueline Caputo, and Mary Jackson and her daughters, Veronica and Frances Dickel; his son, Dr. Gregory E. Jackson Jr. and his wife, Natalie, and their children, Mia and Alexander Jackson; great-grandson, Alexander Gregory Denney; and sister, Anita Engley.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and Joseph Jackson.

Visitation was held Feb. 6 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Middletown, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 7 at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, Route 17K, Bullville, N.Y. Burial with Military honors will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, N.Y.
