— Join the Cary Institute and local teachers Jonathan Howe, Laurie Malin, and Miriam Straus to explore environmental data from the Hudson River and the Wappinger Creek.

This science-focused, environmental data literacy project, titled "An Alternative to 'Alternative Facts,'" will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10. It is open to all educators interested in strengthening their environmental knowledge and data skills, and the skills of their students. It will be held at the Cary Institute, 2801 Sharon Turnpike, Millbrook.

Workshop datasets include stream and river monitoring, macroinvertebrates, and aquatic plants. The workshop will deepen partipants' understanding of science, data, and the environment.

Participants will practice graphing and manipulating data in Google Sheets, uncover the stories in the numbers, and highlight ways in which data can be misrepresented. Presenting teachers will share their classroom experience and provide tips for developing students’ critical thinking skill set.

The workshop is free and open to middle school and high school educators. Lunch will be provided. Bring a laptop if possible.

Space is limited. To register, complete the online registration on the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center website (http://bit.ly/2F94ygA) before Feb. 3.
