Pets Alive needs urgent help after burst pipes

  • Damage at the shelter (Photo provided)

With the extreme cold weather last week, many of our pipes froze in our cat house. While many of the interior pipes thawed safely, overnight, thawing pipes burst in the cat house garage, causing significant flooding of that area. All cats are safe. It did not affect the interior of the house.

We have capped off the break and are now working on cleaning up the area. A flood restoration service will be coming this afternoon to assess what additional work is needed to clean up the area and we have called our insurance company to see what will be covered.

In the meantime, we have an immediate need for non-clumping pellet cat litter. On Monday of this week, we got a FULL LOAD of fresh pellet cat litter — it is now all destroyed due to the flooding. If you can donate a bag or two, this will greatly help.

You can order from our Amazon wishlist for Pets Alive, Middletown, N.Y. If possible, please procure non-clumping PELLET cat litter or equine pellet bedding (it can be used as litter). It is the type preferred by our kitties.

You can also purchase this type of litter (often called pellet horse bedding) locally at any Tractor Supply store (their brand is Tractor Supply Equine Pelletized Bedding) or at Heritage Feed and Supply (their brand is Boreal Pellet - Wood Pellets Premium Horse Bedding). It can be dropped off at our facility at 363 Derby Road, Middletown, NY. Please drop all items at the kennel building.

In addition, we had damage to the garage itself, which will require repairs, and we're still assessing what other inventory damage has occurred.

Monetary gifts will also be helpful as we assess what will and won't be covered by insurance. Even a few dollars can help us in this critical time of need.

Thank you once again, for your generosity and support.
