Barbara M. Karl of Monroe, N.Y., dies at age 84

Barbara M. Karl of Monroe, N.Y., a lifelong Orange County resident, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Orange Regional Medical Center in Wallkill, N.Y. She was 84.

Daughter of Harry L. Murray Sr. and Lillian Diffily Murray, she was born Jan. 4, 1934, in Middletown, N.Y. She was a homemaker, active member of Sacred Heart in Monroe and an avid New York Mets fan.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Ann Horaz and husband, Thomas, of Washingtonville, N.Y., and Catherine M. Rivera of Monroe; sons, John M. Karl III and wife, Peggy, of Monroe, Lawrence J. Karl of Broomfield, Colo., and Christopher R. Karl and wife, Karen, of San Diego, Calif.; brother, William Murray of Chester, N.Y.; sister, Mary Kay Campbell of Sun City, Ariz.; grandchildren, Michael, Gregory, Jonathan, Shannon, Emily, Hannah, Lauren, and Heather; and great-grandchildren, William and Bentley.

She is predeceased by her husband, John M. Karl Jr.; daughter, Marianne Karl; grandson, William Rivera; brothers, James, Robert, John, Harry Jr.; and sisters, Elizabeth Carey and Jean Murphy.

Visitation was on Jan. 12 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, Monroe. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 13 at Sacred Heart Church, Monroe. Interment followed in St. Columba Cemetery, Chester.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
