— With the huge tree festooned in colorful lights now all lit up, it's official: Christmas will soon be here.

The annual tree lighting in the village of Goshen last Saturday had all the makings of an old-fashioned holiday celebration: hot chocolate and cookies; Christmas carols, courtesy of the Girl Scouts; an enthusiastic reading of Clement Moore’s “The Night Before Christmas"; Santa Claus welcoming children, young and old; plenty of neighbors meeting and greeting each other with good cheer; and the dramatic countdown to the festive tree lighting.

Yes, it’s clear — the holiday season is upon us.

The tree lighting ceremony is a joint effort of the Village of Goshen, Goshen Joint Recreation, the Goshen Girl Scouts, the Goshen Chamber of Commerce, Illuminate Goshen, the Goshen Fire Department, and Cornerstone Theater Arts.
