College schedules holiday concerts and open house

SUNY Orange in Middletown has announced its December community calendar of holiday events. For more information, call the Arts and Communication Department at 341-4787.

Holiday Open House, Dec. 9-10, 16-17

The Middletown Garden Lovers will decorate the College’s Morrison Hall mansion, 115 South St, Middletown, to illustrate the theme “The Holidays Over the Decades.” The first floor will be decorated. Hours are from 1 to 5 p.m. on all four days. Santa Claus will make a special visit on Dec. 17. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for the Peter Alberghini Inspirational Scholarship fund. For more information, call Mary Roth at 341-4179.

Holiday Concert, Dec. 9

The SUNY Orange Madrigal Singers will present their annual winter concert at 3 p.m. in the festively adorned Morrison Hall. Selections will include madrigals, spirituals and many popular songs and carols for the holidays. The concert is free to the public, with a suggested donation of $5 to be used for scholarships and guest artists.

Symphonic Band Concert, Dec. 9

The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band’s winter concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theater. The band will perform arrangements by John Williams, Leonard Bernstein and Johan de Meji, and will premiere a piece written by alto saxophonist Paul Holderbaum. Tickets are $10, general admission; $5, seniors (60 and older) and all other students; free for active duty military, SUNY Orange students with ID and all children under 12.

Choir Concert, Dec. 10

The SUNY Orange Choir and Madrigal Singers will present their annual winter concert at 3 p.m. in the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall (formerly Orange Hall Theatre). Selections will include madrigals, spirituals, and many popular holiday songs and carols. A new addition this year are smaller ensembles and solos. Selections will be directed by Danielle Cornacchio and accompanied by pianist Joel Flowers. This concert is free to the public with a suggested donation of $5 to be used for scholarships and guest artists.

Chamber Ensemble Concert, Dec. 16

The SUNY Orange Chamber Ensembles will present a free concert at 6 p.m.,featuring works by Schubert, Mozart, Gehot, Pachelbel and others at Morrison Hall.
