It pays to plan

Planning can also help:
Preserve important natural resources
Identify issues, accommodate change, and stay ahead of trends
Ensure that growth makes the community better, not just bigger
Foster sustainable economic development
Protect property rights and values
Enable other public and private agencies to plan their activities in harmony with the village’s plans

— "Creating a Vision for 2020 and Beyond," a forum where Chester residents are invited to share their ideas for the village, will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, at Village Hall, 47 Main St., Chester.

The village is putting together its first-ever comprehensive plan, an expression of the community’s vision for the future and a strategic map to reach that vision. Comprehensive planning is an important tool to guide future development of land to ensure a safe, pleasant, and robust economic environment for residential, commercial, industrial, and public activities. Comprehensive plans also consider open space, parks, tourism, and walkability.

"Let’s plan it together!" says the invitation from village officials. "Watch for upcoming ways you can participate by following our website villageofchesterny.com."
