Keys Of Goshen 2017
Unveiling of art pianos
Saturday, June 17
Noon to 1 p.m.
Starting at Orange Blossom Monument, Main Street, Goshen
(directly across the street from Limoncello Restaurant, 159 Main Street)

Village of Goshen Mayor Kyle Roddey will present the public art project, Keys Of Goshen, at an unveiling on Saturday, June 17, at noon.

The public is invited to join the artists, Roddey, and other project personnel at the Orange Blossom monument on Main Street, across the street from Limoncello Restaurant where the first piano will be revealed.

Keys 2017 will feature the original work of five area artists, all members of the Goshen Art League, who have been painting and decorating pianos for the past two months. The Keys of Goshen 2017 artists are Tracy Dentico, Karen E. Gersch, Sarah Fortner Pierson, Helen and Julia Tighe, and Chris VanVooren.

The pianos for this project were donated to the village for the express purpose of becoming public art to be enjoyed by all both visually and aurally.

“Our experience in 2016 was that the pianos were played by musicians of all ages and all levels of ability. There were actually some pretty accomplished pianists who made a habit of stopping by to play and practice, much to the delight of passers-by and area merchants," said Roddey, the creator of the project. “But also many children tried their hands at playing. And a few were even heard to sit and practice their obligatory scales. It's going to be another magical summer and I want to thank Project Manager Gloria Bonelli for all her hard work.”

“We hope there will be impromptu mini-concerts. And perhaps even a lesson or two may be held at the pianos,” said Julissie Saltzberg, president of the Goshen Art League. Saltzberg was one of the artists commissioned for the project in 2016.

The five pianos will be on public view in locations along Main Street, until fall when they will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The proceeds from the auction go toward establishing a fund for producing the 2018 pianos. Last year all five pianos were sold at auction.
