GOSHEN — Owen Burke, a graduating student of Chester High School, was awarded a $500 scholarship from the Rudolph Vallet Memorial Science and Education Scholarship Fund, a charitable fund administered through the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.
Owen will be starting his freshman year this fall at the University at Buffalo.
The Rudolph Vallet Memorial Science and Education Scholarship Fund was created by the family of beloved Rudolph Vallet, who was a Chester Union Free School District Science teacher. A scholarship is awarded annually to an individual pursuing a college degree in a science field or a related field, maintains a minimum GPA of 3.3 for all science courses, and displays upstanding moral character and a willingness to help others at all times. Since inception, this scholarship has awarded a total of $11,750 in scholarships.
This year, the Community Foundation celebrates 15 years of charitable leadership and philanthropy. The Foundation has significantly increased local charitable funds and empowered donors to make a profound difference in the quality of life in our region with the creation of over 180 funds that will provide grants and scholarships forever.
