Friends of the Arboretum will be offering a class for children and one for adults this August at the Orange County Arboretum, located within Thomas Bull Memorial Park.

On Aug. 2 the Friends will offer "Pond Life for Kids" from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This hands-on program will cover which animals and insects live in, around, and above a pond. Participants will get to visit with the frogs, tadpoles, turtles, dragonflies, damselflies, and other fascinating wildlife that reside at the pond in the Arboretum. This fun and educational class is for boys and girls ages seven to 12 and the cost is $2 per child.

This will be muddy program, so children should dress accordingly. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To reserve a spot, call 845-615-3828.

On Aug. 12 the Friends will offer a class on Leaf Casting from 10 a.m. to noon in the Kosuga classroom.

Join Arboretum volunteers and learn how to make these garden decorations cast from concrete using leaves you can find right in your yard.

Discover how to mold the leaves and get great ideas on how to decorate them once they have cured, as well as suggestions for uses and how to display them in your garden. All necessary supplies and a place for the castings to dry will be provided.

The volunteers will make arrangements with you to pick up your dried castings at a later date.

The class is $20 per person and pre-registration is required. For more information or to reserve a seat, call 845-615-3828.
