TOWN OF WALLKILL — Orange Regional Medical Center's summer exhibit features the work of three Warwick artists.

The exhibit, "Layers: Laura Breitman, Jonathan Talbot, Lisa Zukowski," highlights the collage- the creative practice of assembling material fragments into something entirely new.

The exhibit is located at Orange Regional Medical Center, located at 707 East Main Street, Middletown on the ground floor gallery adjacent to the conference center, and will remain on view until Aug. 15.

Thousands of pieces of fabric are contained in each one of Laura Breitman’s photorealistic mixed media collage pieces. Her careful and painstaking attention to detail tricks the eye, capturing viewers’ attention to draw them in to look more closely at the layers of shapes and color.

From papers and paint, Jonathan Talbot composes both large and small series of abstract works. His collage paintings perform like visual jazz, seemingly improvisational but thoughtfully constructed. Talbot juxtaposes elements –vintage maps, fragments of text, and overlapping forms–in unexpected ways.

Lisa Zukowski’s collages reflect her desire for healing and change. She takes such things as shredded, discarded clothing and embeds them in wax in a symbolic gesture of destroying old ways and transforming them into something positive. Her mixed media works reflect her inspiration in the passage of time and the layers accumulated over the years.

Layers is part of Orange Regional’s ongoing program of changing exhibits featuring artwork by local, contemporary artists. The Gallery at ORMC is free and open to the public.
