String quartet and pianist to open 2019 SUNY Orange concert season

MIDDLETOWN - The 2019 concert programming at SUNY Orange opens on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 3pm with the The American String Quartet in Concert with Pianist Vadim Serebryany, the school announced.
The artists are scheduled to perform selections by Ravel, Dvorak, and Tsontakis.
Works by this mix of composers includes a quartet, a quintet, and solo piano pieces that demonstrate the versatility and virtuosity of the musicians.
2019 also marks the 45th anniversary of the American String Quartet. Violinist Laurie Carney, who is the only original member, presently plays with violinist Peter Winograd, violist Daniel Avshalomov, and cellist Wolfram Koessel.
The concert will take place at the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall.
Described by GoMemphis.com as “performing with precision, eloquence and subtlety,” the American String Quartet has come to this Middletown stage several times as well as concert halls in Europe, Asia, South America, Canada, and in all of the 50 states, and in many venues in NYC, where the quartet is based. Additionally, the four have played the complete Beethoven cycle of string quartets at the Cervantes Festival in Mexico and the Tel Aviv Museum in Israel. It is the resident quartet at the Manhattan School of Music and the Aspen Music Festival.
The Darmstädter Echo German newspaper has hailed the group, stating, “From a combination of individual brilliance and ensemble perfection emerges one of the best quartets of our time.”
Vadim Serebryany is a recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician. He has performed in Europe, North America, South America, Australia, and Japan. He received his DMA from Yale and teaches at Ithaca College.
Serebryany has embarked on several challenging projects, including performing the complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin, as well as presenting various solo and chamber works in creative programs of the Second Viennese School composers (Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern).
Tickets cost: adults $15; senior citizens, faculty, staff¬, alumni $10; and will be available in the box office starting at 2 p.m. the day of the concert.

Tickets purchased online can be printed at home or picked up at the box office.
All students are free, but must pick up tickets at box office starting one hour before concert time.
Orange Hall is located at the corner of Wawayanda and Grandview avenues in Middletown.
