Chester Quilt Guild sews tribute in memory of Kurtis Sparovich
The current Chester Quilt Guild actually began within the Friends of the Chester Library in 2009. Since 2011, we have been a sponsored program of the Town of Chester Parks and Recreation. This group of friends and colleagues meets twice a month to share knowledge, expertise, projects, ideas and more! We also try to schedule special event workshops twice a year when we invite leaders to teach us new techniques.
Additionally, we have participated in a variety of community service projects. These include wheelchair bags donated to Valley View; “little dresses for Africa” donated through a neighbor’s church; and pillowcases donated to a neighbor’s pediatric cancer facility and hospital, and a women’s shelter.
Our latest project began when our community lost a young man, Kurtis Sparovich, on June 29, 2012. We suggested that his family and friends contribute T-shirts to allow us to create a quilt to comfort them and honor him. Through the combined efforts of our quilt group, we are now ready to present our gift to the Sparovich family. [6-10-14] Extra special thanks to Addie Sheeley, Peggy Tummarello, and Cindy Curcio who donated fabric; Karen Hardin, who donated the quilting; and to all the members who donated time, energy and talent toward this project.
We can only hope that the Sparovich family will enjoy this tribute and quilt as much as we loved creating for them!
