Blood drive to honor Kim Salotti
CHESTER — The Chester Rotary and Girl Scout Troop #323 are asking community members to donate blood Monday in honor of Kim Salotti, a Chester teen undergoing cancer treatment.
The blood drive will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 9, at the Walton Engine and Hose Company, 81 Main St., Chester.
"Kimberly Salotti and family are forever grateful for the tremendous community support that come out to donate blood," says the press release from the Rotary Club.
In August 2012, Kim was diagnosed with a brain tumor called medulloblastoma. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor and has been going for treatments since. She first went through her radiation for six weeks at Massachusetts General Hospital and then started her chemotherapy soon thereafter at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of Columbia Presbyterian in New York City.
Thanks to generous blood donors, Kim has been able to receive the blood donations that are helping her with her treatment.
"There are many children like Kimberly in our communities and all around the world suffering from illnesses where they need blood," says the Rotary. "Please donate!"
Appointments are suggested. Call Mary Rohde at 742-2195 or Robyn Boardman at 649-1029.
Walk-ins will be welcome.
Editor's note: An error in the original press released stated that Kim was continuing chemotherapy. She is not. She has completed her chemotherapy and is doing very well, with no more treatments planned.
