Academic League Team finishes first at OCAL Tournament
GOSHEN — The Goshen High School Academic League Team finished in first place at the Orange County Academic League (OCAL) Tournament at Cornwall High School.
Goshen topped Cornwall to bring the championship trophy home. Other participating teams from the county include Washingtonville High School, Warwick Valley High School and James I. O’Neill High School.
The five-member teams compete in knowledge matches, quiz bowl style, for matches of two 15-minute rounds. The team with the most points at the end of the match wins. The questions include a wide variety of topics on general knowledge as well as more specific ones in American History, Math, Science, Literature, Sports, Geography, Foreign Culture, Mythology, Religion, Grammar and the Arts.
As the winner of this year’s tournament, Goshen will host next year’s finale. The team is advised by Elizabeth Joseph and Brenda Megello.
Members Academic League Team are Jill Anderson, Charles Cerillo, Margaret Conley, Michael Dunkelman, Mark Laaninen, Conor O’Riordan, Nikil Ramanathan, Sanjeev Rampam, Sabrina Randass, Jesse Swift, John Swift and Michael Wolek.
