No tax increase in Chester

CHESTER — The Chester Village Board of Trustees on April 7 adopted the proposed budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year.
Mayor Philip Valastro announced there will be no tax increase. The tax rate will remain at $13.34 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The total operating budget for the general fund for 2014-15 is $5,237,589, an increase of $88,985 over fiscal year 2013-14.
In other business
Snow ordinance ends — The snow ordinance for parking will end on April 15. However, the Street Sweeping Ordinance will go into effect on all Fridays, when Parking is prohibited on Main Street all day, and on Winkler Place from 3 to 6 a.m.
Sewer bills — Remaining unpaid sewer bills are no longer being collected but will be added on to village tax bills on June 1, along with a 10 percent penalty.
Sewer rates will increase to $334 per year or $83.50 a quarter. Fees will be assessed for each quarterly payment not met. Quarterly payments are due on the following dates: June 30, September 30, December 31, and March 31.
ZBA appointment — Trustees approved the appointment of Mike Brideweser to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
