— Chris Battiato is the new trustee on the Village of Chester Board, appointed by Mayor Phil Valastro fill the unexpired term of Phil Roggia, who retired to Florida.

Battiato participated at his first regular village board meeting on Aug. 11. He will be a candidate for the seat in the November election.

“I grew up in Chester, a place I wanted my kids to grow up in — safe streets and good schools, not overly congested," he said. "I want to do my part to try to make other people want to stay here and raise their families. My goal is to do what I can to make sure the community’s concerns have a voice. “

Members of the public present at the meeting said they were pleased with his appointment.

Battiato’s father is Joe Battiato, a former Chester village mayor.
